Saudade, my film - is a meditation on heart-ache and the process we go through when we let go of the person we love. When a romanic relationship ends, sometimes we are left with emotional remnants of our former partner. These remnants exist within us in the shape or memories and experiences. We know in our We linger in this in-between place where we miss our former lover dearly and can't bear the thought of opening up to a new person just yet. This is where the character in my film is. During a night of blues dancing,
Blues dancing is a very intimate partnered dance; two people hold each-other in a soft embrace and express their emotions through body movement while moving in rhythm with the music.
I see dancing as a beautiful metaphor for this pattern of connection and disconnection we as humans go through with the people we love. As a blues dancer myself, I’ve experienced many wonderful connections with many amazing dance partners. On any given night of dancing, I’ll have an average of thirty dance partners. Some I connect better with than others. But regardless, every dance is a commitment to make the best connection I can. In that sense, every dance is like a short relationship. And when the dance is over, there is always someone new to connect with.
